Obama the Reagan lover

Obama shocked many progressives by praising Ronald Reagan as someone
who brought America a "sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had
been missing." I was among those who found this deeply troubling —
because the idea that Reagan brought a transfomation in American
dynamism is a right-wing myth, not borne out by the facts. (There was
a surge in productivity and innovation — but it happened in the 90s,
under Clinton, not under Reagan).

All the usual suspects pooh-poohed these concerns; it was ridiculous,
they said, to think of Obama as a captive of right-wing mythology.

But are you so sure about that now?

But Obama buys the right-wing smear.

More and more, it's becoming clear that progressives who had their
hearts set on Obama were engaged in a huge act of self-delusion. Once
you got past the soaring rhetoric you noticed, if you actually paid
attention to what he said, that he largely accepted the conservative
storyline, a view of the world, including a mythological history, that
bears little resemblance to the facts.

And confronted with a situation utterly at odds with that storyline …
he stayed with the myth."

Your declaration that, "the usa has never been a christian nation," based on a phrase in an article of a treaty establishes only one fact - that you have not researched the subject matter.

The Treaty of Tripoli states (in part) that, "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion," which is perfectly consistent with Amendment I of the Constitution.

Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Article XI of the Treaty of Tripoli "even if shortened and cut abruptly ('the government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion'), is not an untrue statement since it is referring to the federal government. Recall that while the Founders themselves openly described America as a Christian nation, they did include a constitutional prohibition against a federal establishment; religion was a matter left solely to the individual States."[1]

"Therefore, if the article is read as a declaration that the federal government of the United States was not in any sense founded on the Christian religion, such a statement is not a repudiation of the fact that America was considered a Christian nation."[1]

General William Eaton was a major figure in the Barbary Powers conflict. "Eaton's official correspondence during his service confirms that the conflict was a Muslim war against a Christian America."[1]

Additionally, the writings of John Adams, Noah Webster, Daniel Webster, and numerous others from that time period make it abundantly clear that the United States was a Christian nation at that time.

Fox News is coming to the sign painting party tonight!

Folks:

 

The media attention for this Wednesday's WeWontFly.com rally just keeps growing!  I just got word that Channel 29 is sending a camera crew to the sign painting party tonight!

 

                Let's pack the place.  It's being held tonight (Sunday, 11/21), starting at 7 PM at the Baggataway Tavern, 31 N Front St, West Conshohocken, PA 19428 (www.baggtav.com, 610-834-8085).  We'll be in the upstairs room (accessible only from the stairs leading from the parking lot out back).

 

                Bring sign-making stuff, like paint, poster board, markers, or whatever.  Or just show up.

 

                If you can't make it to tonight's sign painting, remember the rally itself, one of 17 across the nation that are being held this coming Wednesday, 11/24.  For the Philly rally, we're gathering at 6:30 PM in the Riverbend Bar and Grille inside the Airport Marriott, accessible from Terminal B.  You can take SEPTA to get to the airport, and if you drive I hear you can get reduced parking rates from the Marriott if you park in Garage C, Level 2. 

 

                To summarize: it will an educational rally (not confrontational) on the public sidewalk in front of the departure terminals of Philly International Airport from 7 to 9 PM on Wednesday, 11-24, where we'll be handing out literature regarding the new porno scanners and gropings.

 

                FYI, I spoke with the Philadelphia police again on Thursday to give them an update, and everything is still cool.  They'll have a few officers from their Civil Affairs unit there in case the TSA tries to rear their ugly head.
