Shocking revelations have come to light about Alberta's Wildrose party.
Leader Danielle Smith has solidified her views on the theory of global warming: "The science isn't settled and we need to continue to monitor the debate. In the meantime, we need to support consumers in making the transition to cleaner fuels."
"The science isn't settled." That's it. Pretty ho-hum if you ask me, nothing earth-shattering. A legitimate statement of the situation.
Because, despite what the global-warming cultists would have you believe, the debate isn't done — not by a long shot. And the breathless mainstream media has jumped all over Danielle Smith like she was a heretic confessing before an inquisition.
From the Calgary Herald: "Danielle Smith has doubts about climate change."
From the Edmonton Journal: "Wildrose's Smith not convinced climate change is real."
From the Toronto Star: "Alberta election: Scientist muses whether Alberta Wildrose leader believes in flat Earth."
The sky is falling! Is she really out of step with public opinion? Or is this another manufactured scandal by the mainstream media party?
Polls confirm that nearly half of Canadians DO NOT believe in man-made global warming, and support for that notion is decreasing rapidly. Contrarian data is starting to get the attention it deserves. Here are some examples of news over the past week that people should be absorbing to make an informed decision for themselves.
- Rebellion at NASA against Global warming. Forty-nine highly respected former NASA astronauts, engineers and scientists are fighting back against efforts by top executives to use the federal agency to promote global warming alarmism. Their joint letter warns that NASA's "green" position is endangering the "reputation of science itself."
- A new study finds that the "Medieval Warm Period" 1,000 years ago wasn't just confined to Europe but extended all the way down to Antarctica. Plenty of castles but no cars back then. That period was followed by what's known as the "mini ice age." Two natural processes. Because guess what? The Earth warms and cools in cycles by itself.
- Data confirms the global-warming trend has peaked and has even been starting to decline over the past decade.
Why aren't these headlines penetrating the craniums of mainstream media? What do you think are the consequences of that global-warming group-think? What would happen if people like Danielle Smith went the easy route like so many others and blindly joined the warmist flock?
The enviro-zealots want to shut down the oilsands completely. The NDP wants to severely curtail oilsands development with crippling penalties, all based on a global warming debate that's far from done.
It's time to remind people of some very important facts.
Oilsands production and development activities could generate up to $444 billion in taxes and royalty revenue for Canadian governments over the next 25 years. All of Canada will benefit from the sands, even "have-not" Ontario.
Toronto elites should do a latte cheer to the oilsands. Canadian crude is contributing $63 billion and 65,000 new jobs.
Regardless of what you think of global warming, oilsands emissions make no difference. Canada produces 2% of all emissions, with our oilsands contributing only about 0.2% of global CO2. We could cripple our economy tomorrow, shut down the oilsands completely, our country could take itself back to the Dark Ages and it just wouldn't matter. Yet the global-warming alarmists treat the people who question their stupid demands like heretics.
If anything, all this hoopla over Danielle Smith's views on global warming confirms her courage. By facing down the criticism of the converted. For daring to say what she believes and echoing what many people think.
This isn't just an Alberta election story. It's an environmental story that has national implications.
It's time more prominent Canadians contributed to a debate that's far from done to protect our future prosperity.
It's Canadian common sense.
