Though the Conservative part won a comfortable majority. The big winner of the night was the socialist. and big union supported, New Democratic Party. Going from 36 seats to 102. Making them the official opposition.
So, a conservative government with a strong socialist opposition. It is going to be an interesting ride.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper, an economist by trade. Has steered the country through the economic crisis well. and the voters rewarded him for it.
There were some surprises. From star candidates losing their seats. To the big gains in liberal Ontario for the conservatives. The conservatives won a lot of immigrant votes that traditionally have gone to the Liberal party. A major shift which I think bodes well for the country. The minority communities may be waking up to the fact that the left wing party do a lot of lip service to them. But rarely do them any good. A conservative party that is friendly to small businesses seems to have made an impact.
The conservative party is a strong supporter of free trade. Something that the left wing parties have always opposed. Even when it has proven to be good for the country. There are several problems with the Obama administration. An administration that doesn't seem to understand that Canada is the U.S.'s largest trading partner. And where the U.S. gets a large portion of their oil, natural gas, and electricity. Border issues are a major concern. As many Americans still believe the myth that the 9/11 murders got into the U.S. through Canada.
So we will see how it works out. If nothing else it will be a lively parliament. Might even be able to hear the fireworks from my apartment....LOL

A happy bear today.
