This politically correct crap is going overboard. A farmers market in Houston wasn't diverse enough, since most of the farm vendors are white. I guess this could be due to the simple fact that most farmers in America happen to be white. Maybe that should be taken into account the next time a city plans a 'urban' (liberal code word for black) farmers market.

HOUSTON - How did a simple farmers market at Houston's City Hall get so controversial? A four letter word: Race.

The City of Houston partnered with Urban Harvest to create a farmers market at city hall.

The concept is to allow vendors and urban farmers to sell their products at the government building on Wednesdays.

The problem? One city official says there was a lack of diversity out of the 30 vendors when the program began a month ago. The participants were nearly all white.

That issue caught the attention of Velma Laws who heads the city's affirmative action division.

"It was very disconcerting to me," Laws says.

Laws immediately contacted Mayor Annise Parker's office. The city and Urban Harvest began a recruiting effort to get more minorities involved. The farmers market has since added an Indian restaurant owner and an African American vendor.

Our effort to get answers became difficult when Urban Harvest director Mark Bowen refused to comment on the diversity issue.

"I'm just finding out about this interview," he said.

A spokesperson for the mayor's office says the market is still a work in progress. Janice Evans says the recruitment effort to get more minorities involved is still underway.
