Brian Roberts, the Chairman and CEO of Comcast, owners of NBC Universal.
The Reverend Al Sharpton, host of MSNBC's Politics Nation.
And Quicken Loans, one of the original seven national sponsors of The Rush Limbaugh Show that pretentiously dropped Rush's show.
That would be the same MSNBC host Reverend Al Sharpton -- hired by MSNBC president Phil Griffin -- caught on this video clip from Evocateur, a documentary film of the late television host Morton Downey, Jr. Sharpton, seen here on the set of Downey's television show, is heatedly shouting to an audience member:
You ain't nothing, you a punk faggot. Now come on, do something!
That video, provided on YouTube courtesy of Tucker Carlson's The Daily Caller, is in fact an excerpt of a trailer for the film on Downey produced by Ironbound Films. The entire trailer can be found here at the Ironbound site.
The clip of the MSNBC host hired by Mr. Griffin has now surfaced along with a series of Sharpton audio tapes -- found here. Beginning with this reference by Sharpton to the black then-mayor of New York, David Dinkins.
David Dinkins.… You wanna be the only n….on television, the only n….in the newspaper, the only n…to talk.…Don't cover them, don't talk to them, cause you got the only n…problem. Cause you know if a black man stood up next to ya they would see you for the whore that you really are.
Other tapes are littered with derogatory references to "Greek homos," "Chinamen," "Koreans sell us watermelons," and so on.
But there's one video that has not gotten attention.
That would be this one, which features NBC News anchor Brian Williams speaking to the National Action Network Conference
That would be the National Action Network, a progressive group founded by: Al Sharpton. Whom Williams refers to in warm and familiar terms at the end of the tape as "the Reverend Al."
The controversy over the relationship between Sharpton and both MSNBC and NBC News anchor Williams has erupted in the wake of the drive by leftists -- with MSNBC and Media Matters in the front of the pack -- to strip Rush Limbaugh of his sponsors because of the Fluke affair -- and hence push his program off the air.
As president of MSNBC, Griffin is directly responsible for Sharpton's hiring, as well as the relentless attack on Limbaugh's free speech rights. The accusation that MSNBC is terrified of free debate was an accusation made as well by the recently dismissed MSNBC commentator and longtime conservative Pat Buchanan. Buchanan discussed his firing by MSNBC with Fox's Sean Hannity here and here.
I called Mr. Griffin's office directly to get his comments on the Sharpton hate tapes. I was politely shuttled to MSNBC's Vice President of Communications, Jeremy Gaines. Who dutifully inquired as to my concerns.
This is what I said:

As you may know, I did a piece on MSNBC and Al Sharpton today.
With all the controversy over free speech, now amplified by the Limbaugh episode, the firing of Pat Buchanan etc., I thought a piece on Phil Griffin was in order. I want to see if I can pin down what are his ideas about "standards".
I have found, for example, this video clip of Rev. Sharpton calling someone a "punk faggot."
On top of his "Greek homos" remark, this seems to indicate a toleration by MSNBC of remarks many would see as an indication of homophobia. On top of the audio that has Mr. Sharpton spewing the "n-word" and calling the then-Mayor of New York a "n…..whore" I am curious as to Mr. Griffin's idea of standards for MSNBC.
Is Rachel Maddow, for example, aware that one of her fellow hosts called someone a "punk faggot" on national television?
You should know that I have also contacted Brian Roberts of Comcast to ask some of these same questions.
I am personally a strong believer in free speech. I believe audiences decide what and who they will listen to or watch. But it appears Mr. Griffin has a different view and I confess I'm somewhat confused as to what that is. There is a report that Mr. Griffin has said the Buchanan book did not belong in the public discourse. Is calling the Mayor of New York a "n…..whore" and a member of a television audience a "punk faggot" acceptable discourse for an MSNBC host?

I'm sure this is an uncomfortable line of questioning. But under the circumstances, it's a necessary one.
Mr. Gaines has replied, and here is his statement in its entirety on behalf of Phil Griffin and MSNBC:
As we said when we hired Rev. Sharpton, we didn't hire the Al Sharpton of 1989, we hired the Al Sharpton of 2011. As he has said as recently as on last Sunday's "Meet the Press," he has changed over the years and no longer uses the heated rhetoric of two decades ago. We have been clear and consistent in our actions, we hold our hosts accountable for what they say on our air.

With all the attention NBC/MSNBC has been devoting to the Rush Limbaugh-Sandra Fluke incident, I wanted to see if I can pin down Brian Williams' idea of standards for NBC News and its cable sibling, MSNBC. He appears on both networks, as do other NBC News personalities like Andrea Mitchell.
In light of all the coverage directed at Mr. Limbaugh, I am curious as to why the lack of coverage of moments like this one featuring MSNBC host the Reverend Al Sharpton calling someone -- on television -- a "punk faggot." This is on top of the audios I have listed in the above column in which Rev. Sharpton refers to "Greek homos" and spews the "n word." Collectively these things certainly leave the impression that NBC News, its parent company Comcast, and MSNBC in particular -- are turning a blind eye to what many would consider outrageous examples of both homophobia and racism.
I have also sent this inquiry to MSNBC president Phil Griffin and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts.
My questions for Mr. Williams:
• I have a video of you appearing at an Al Sharpton event (here). The "punk faggot" video certainly existed before your appearance, as did common knowledge of Rev. Sharpton's "Greek Homo" remark and his spewing of the "n-word" in an attack on then-New York Mayor David Dinkins.
Rev. Sharpton is now a host on your network. Do you feel he is representative of the standards set by people like General Sarnoff [Note: this refers to General David Sarnoff, the legendary early leader of NBC], Huntley and Brinkley, John Chancellor, Tom Brokaw -- and now yourself?
• Why did you appear at this Sharpton event? Did you not know of your host's proclivity for these kind of remarks? Do you routinely make appearances of this nature at eventts where the host has a well recorded problem with what many would call homophobia and highly charged racial utterances?
• In light of the fact that NBC News and MSNBC have extensively reported on the Rush Limbaugh episode, why has there been no reporting of Reverend Sharpton's remarks in terms of how they would affect his presence as an on-air host at MSNBC?
Erica, thanks for your patience. My deadline is 4pm tomorrow, Thursday. I'm sure these are uncomfortable questions for Brian Williams. But clearly the subject of what is/is not appropriate conduct by hosts of radio/television shows has been raised by Mr. Limbaugh's critics. Reinforced by the dismissal by MSNBC president Phil Griffin of commentator Pat Buchanan over what has been said to be writings that do not belong in the "civil discourse" of American politics. There has been a move to force sponsors from Mr. Limbaugh's shows -- shows no more controversial to conservatives than Mr. Williams's broadcasts and those of MSNBC are to liberals.
The need to clear the air on NBC News standards, and those of MSNBC and Comcast, is apparent.

In another he refers to "Greek homos" and in still another "Chinamen" etc. The tapes are found here.
I'd like to talk with Brian Roberts about Comcast standards. The recent dismissal of longtime conservative commentator Pat Buchanan generated a press report that MSNBC president Phil Griffin didn't think Buchanan's recent book belonged in the public discourse. Yet somehow, when an MSNBC host -- on tape -- repeatedly uses a racist slur and refers to "Greek homos" etc. -- this seems to be of no concern to Comcast.
Mr. Roberts is the boss here. I would like to understand what seems to be a considerable disconnect when it comes to Comcast standards.
I will be working on an article on Mr. Griffin.

In late 2006, Americans were rolling along with 4.4% unemployment, the average price for a gallon of gasoline was $2.20, and America's total national debt stood at $8.5 trillion dollars.
When comparing the statistics above with those of today after Democrats took over both houses of Congress in '07, held the Senate in the '10 elections and the Hope n Change White House of the past 3 1/2 years, the average citizens of other nations must be wondering just what were Americans thinking during the 2006 and 2008 elections? As the saying goes, numbers do not lie, and Americans made monstrous uninformed voting decisions in '06 and '08 and now future generations of Americans will pay the price for these irresponsible actions for decades to come.
Not only can the consequences of voting for the undefined Hope and Change Liberal's "fundamental transformation of America" be measured in [massive new debt] dollars and cents, it must also be measured in the [sure-to-come] loss of American freedom to a big debt-spending, all too powerful nanny-state plutocracy-in-the-making. (also known as the fake Democratic party of 2012.) The current all-powerful Liberal plutocracy must tax the workers more and steal a bigger chunk of American's wealth to feed the nanny-state monstrosity of big government vote-buying through welfare-style handouts. (always done at the expense of the working man.) The following are the true numbers to consider when thinking about voting for four more years of the Obama/Liberal nanny-state destruction of America in 2012:
TOTAL DEBT end of 2006 – $8.5 trillion (sourced above) Total debt as of Jan. 2012 - $15.23 trillion dollars. U.S. debt now equals 100% of the U.S. economy today. In comaprison to other advanced economies, only Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Portugal have debts larger than their economies. Four of those countries are also at the root of the current European debt crisis. Add to that the projected 2012 deficit of another trillion-plus dollars, and America has went from $8.5T in total debt to approx. $17T dollars since 2007. That statistic represents the doubling of all the national debt accrued in America's history… in just six years of Liberal-Democratic rule.
Gasoline cost Americans $2.20 a gallon in Nov. 2006. (and $1.86 a gal when Obama was sworn in) Today, under Barack Obama's often-stated {back in '07, '08 on the campaign trail] skyrocketing energy prices, Americans are being crushed under the weight of paying $3.80 (national average) for a gallon of gasoline to try to get back and forth to work. That means the average working American using 20 gallons of gas to get back and forth to work, now pays an extra $32.00 a week. Add that to the increased cost of groceries and other necessary items due to high fuel prices driving up transportation costs, and middle class America is in a world of hurt when it comes to trying to stretch the paycheck today. For many, this will also mean no summer vacation for the family, which happens to be a longstanding tradition in America.
The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.4% in late 2006. Today it is at 8.3%, and has been over 8% under Barack Obama's hope and change years in the White House. Should the Bureau of Labor's numbers-crunchers decide to inject the truth of how many Americans have been taken out of the workforce, (and don't exist according to them) the effective unemployment rate in America today is actually approaching 15%.
The price of food is also skyrocketing since Liberals took over Congress in 2007, further crushing middle class Americans. As a matter of fact, the price of groceries from 2007 – 2010 increased by an astounding 58%! Add to that the 4.8% increase in 2011 and the projected additional 3% increase for this year and we have seen the price of groceries increase by a whopping, 65.8% since just 2007, under Liberal [fake]Democrats and the Hope and Change Community Organizer-in-Chief, Barack Obama since 2007. Of course, big daddy government has a solution for skyrocketing food prices: They will just take more money from the working class taxpayers to hand out more food stamps to buy Democratic votes, as in this reported whopping 70% increase in people receiving food stamps in America since….2007. With facts like these is it any wonder folks refer to Barack Obama and his Liberal operatives in Congress as the Food Stamp President and his Liberal food stamp party of big government nanny-state creators?
Clinton and today's fake Democrat's role in causing the housing crisis. Millions of hard working Americans have lost billions of dollars in home equity savings due to the depreciated value of their homes caused by the housing and mortgage crisis. A home bought for $330k in 2007 is now worth about $260k today. Most Americans are actually misinformed about the cause of the housing mortgage crisis. The actual cause started back in the 90′s, when Congress required government-sponsored enterprises to purchase CRA loans as part of their affordable housing mandate. As these goals increased over time, the GSEs were forced to seek out even riskier loans to purchase. Then, in 1995, the Department of Housing and Urban Development permitted Fannie and Freddie to purchase subprime securities. Then it steamrolled out of control starting when Republicans were calling for an end to Fannie and Freddie's "everyone deserves a home, regardless of ability to pay" programs, yet Democrats in Congress let the madness continue unabated. President Clinton was a big part of enabling the housing crisis. With the stroke of his pen, Bill Clinton loosened housing rules by rewriting the Community Reinvestment Act, which put added pressure on banks to lend in low-income neighborhoods. Liberal Democrats went from "everyone deserves a trophy. regardless of accomplishments" straight to "everyone deserves a house, regardless of ability to actually pay for said house." Bottom line is that Bill Clinton could have prevented the housing crisis train wreck by vetoing that bill. Without it Fannie and Freddie could not have put the taxpayers on the hook for billions of dollars in home loans to folks who simply could not afford to buy a house.
In summary, middle-class Americans have experienced high unemployment, skyrocketing energy prices, along with budget-busting cost increases of everyday necessities such as food, clothing and transportation since 2007. We have also effectively doubled our national debt since Democrats took over Congress in 2007 and Obama started implementing his hope and change fundamental transformation of America in 2009. Also of note is that President Obama recently took time out from his 24/7 reelection propaganda-spewing campaign ( funded by the taxpayers) to throw a multi-million dollar dinner party for the great and the good, which also just happened to include… 50 Obama reelection campaign bundlers. ( which is technically illegal) While many Americans struggle to put food on the table today, the elitists gathered in the White House to sip champagne and dine on extravagant menu items, all the while rubbing American's noses in it with minute by minute television coverage.
Middle class Americans are currently suffering through a 4-year stagnant economy, high inflation ( with more coming) and record amounts of irresponsible new debt to be added to the backs of future Americans. There were about 20 million unemployed or underemployed Americans as of May 2011, and the jobs added during the last 8 months have not averaged enough to keep up with population growth, let alone expand the work force.
Do Americans really want four more years of Obama-nomics, which are rooted in the denial of the above facts? More importantly can Americans afford four more years of Obama's fundamental transformation of America? Ask the people of Greece how that irresponsible big government debt-spending works out. Simply put, "American austerity measures are coming, and hell is coming with them." Which way will Americans vote in November?

There has been a propaganda video titled "AGENDA, Grinding America Down" that the Tea Party has been using all over the nation to spread falsehoods and fear about President Barack Obama, and the liberal voice of progress and change. This video is telling people that the progress made since the 1960's is a bad thing, and that we are falling further and further away from what it means to be a decent American and live by the "morals" that we are supposedly meant to follow. It seems that all the progress made regarding equality for women, people of color, LGBT individuals, people of varying faiths, etc. goes against the best intention for the United States.
The same old catch phrases are being uttered as they are when any mention of progress and equality is uttered. ("Communism," "Marxism," "Socialism," etc.) Except this time, those words are being used as though the devil himself is about to burn us all alive if we embrace a philosophy of acceptance, tolerance, and a brotherhood of man. The video speaks about the fact that "it does not take a village to raise a child," because that village is "the government." The funny part about shouting those names at our government is that they aren't true. Any dictionary, and basic civics or economics class will tell you likewise.

What those who made this video, and those who watch with eager eyes and ears need to know is that we have a government set up of the people, run by the people, and it is to work for the people... for all people. Not just those deemed worthy by a deity not everyone believes in. This is why the founders wrote into the constitution the separation of church and state. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Meaning no laws shall be written in respect to any religion, but you are free to worship your deity on your own time if you have one, and if you so choose.
After watching, I can only be led to believe that whoever made this video needs to take a class in basic civics, and relearn the constitution. They want an inhibiting America, one that only grants certain rights to some, but not all. They want to live in a nation designed purely for the benefit of the individual and not the general welfare of the whole. The constitution purposefully added the general welfare clause to the constitution. "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." Everything listed is for us to do as a whole, not as individuals... but as individuals working together for the greater good.
The last line of the Declaration of Independence reads (after mentioning the Divine Providence, because most of the founders were Deist), "we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." That's sound to me as though the founders wanted to set up a government to work for the greater good of all that inhabit this land. It doesn't say, we stand alone, working for only ourselves, and keeping only what is ours, because that's what the Lord intended. Nope... it didn't say that.
I can only hope to disseminate the truth regarding this video, and hope that others will spread the word as well. These sorts of films are dangerous. They are dangerous to those that it attacks, and they are dangerous to the well-being of the nation as a whole.
