Re: Jingoism Trumps ‘Jingle Bells’ in Nov. 22 Republican Debate

> CNN's co-sponsors of theRepublican debate from Constitution Hall, in the nation's capital, were the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute. That fact set the jingoistic, interventionist tone for the evening. There were lots of leading questions from scholars of these respective special interests. Implicit in all these questions was the demand for a better-defined role (read war) for America in Iran, Syria ("no fly zone") and Sudan (all the better to inflame and focus the local Al-Qaeda chapter).
> Mitt Romney ended this long, two-hour session by cementing the position of all the Republican candidates, bar Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman to a lesser degree: American exceptionalism means asserting America's military superiority. Unclear was how that position coincided with US economic bankruptcy.
> In the next hour, I will be teasing out the details of the debate for you with the analysis you've come to except here at BAB (donation buttons to the left of you).Humorous highlights(all the more essential given the fact that these aredead-end debates;the resignation written all over Ron Paul's face says it all):Herman Cain(Chairman/CEO, Godfather's Pizza) calls Wolf Blitzes "Blitz," and firmly tells him, "No, Blitz."Michele Bachmann (U.S. Representative, Minnesota, State Senator; Attorney) about Pakistan: "It is too nuclear to fail."
> A scrappyRon Paul(U.S. Representative, Texas, Physician) shouts half-way through the first hour: "How about the rest of us?" "Blitz ignores Paul, and his own promise at the onset to allocate fair time to all.UPDATE: Okay to the meat of the exchanges:Introductions: Rick P. touted the bliss of marriage and the beauty of his wife. Newt Gingrich sucked up to the hosts and think tanks named above. MB blew kisses to the troops. Ron Paul said what needed saying: "I am convinced that needless and unnecessary wars are a great detriment. They undermine our prosperity and our liberties. They add to our deficits and they consume our welfare. We should take a careful look at our foreign policy."Patriot Act:Ron Paul sustained the momentum by calling the thing unpatriotic, advocating that one prosecute cases as the crimes they are. Paul also warned about sacrificing liberty for security in pursuit of total safety and a total police state. The other candidates, with the exception of Jon Huntsman, plumped for an extension and an expansion of the Act.The Nation's Paid Pimps: Paul was not asked about theTransportation and Security Administration.Perry has moved to criminalize the TSA's pat downs in his state of Texas, but here the governor spoke primarily about privatization, getting rid of the unions, and doing better counterintelligence, as if the government could do anything better. Rick Santorum spoke tothe Israeli model. This meant what I call "rational profiling" ("Cabbies Do It Too). Ron Paul stepped in it (it was a matter of time, I guess). First Paul quite correctly called the other candidates on their circular reasoning: They all kept calling for Patriot-Act type preemption against dem "terrorists." However, until you bring a case against someone, he is but a suspect. After that fabulous point, Paul went and ruined it all by saying something stupid like "don't profile."Pakistan/Afghanistan: Newt Gingrich stood out in his quest to effect a sort of American coup in both Pakistan and AfghanistanI thought we had already done so; semantics, reallytake over operations and run these places like we need to. G-d help us. Mitt wants nation building. For a clever man he sure sounded stupid claiming that divesting from these hell holes forthwith would threaten the gains and investment in blood and treasure made so far. Perry had taken his meds for this debate. No pennies for Pakistan was his position. He also spoke of encouraging the region's countries to trade. It's probably as good as talking to the hand, but it's sure worth suggesting barter over boycotts and bombs. Jonrepeatedhis best lines from the CNN/Tea Party Debate in Tampa, Florida, where he advocated for divesting from these crap countries.
> Interspersed were questions from the pompous audience about sanctions on Iran (more, more), possible attacks on A-Jad, and requests for foreign aid. The last position was advanced by no other than Bush'sPaul (Dundes) Wolfowitz. Naturally, now that Wolfy is president of the World Bank, he'd like to secure a supply of US funny money with which to sustain his new fiefdom.I'm getting terribly bored. This whole competition will end badly. My report will commence tomorrow, if your interest is sustained. But Let me end with immigration, an issue on which they all sucked mightily, and should read"Suicide of A Superpower" and its sequel).
> Like most Americans (except for us immigrants), the candidates,in their call for more special visas for highly skilled individuals, proved that they know close to nothing about America's labyrinthine visa programs. They advocated for fixing the immigration system so that the US could import many more brilliant individuals, as if there was a limit on, or an impediment to, such immigration.
> THERE are no limits on the number of geniuses American companies can import.
> America already has an "Extraordinary Ability" Visa. In exchange for my spouse's exceptional abilities and qualifications, he was awardedthe O-1 visa. And we, in short order, gained green cards. The primary H-1B hogsInfosys (and another eight, sister Indian firms), Microsoft, and Intelare forever claiming that they are desperate for talent. But, in reality, they have unlimited access to individuals with unique abilities through the open-ended O-1 visa program.I believe that before the article titled"Why Aren't The H-1B Hogs Satisfied With The O-1 'Extraordinary Ability' Visa?"was written, no immigration expert had made the simple point above.

Newt Gingrich Says Drug Use Is "Antithetical to Being an American," Wants to Escalate Drug War by Impoverishing More Users

Newt Gingrich Says Drug Use Is "Antithetical to Being an American," Wants to Escalate Drug War by Impoverishing More Users
Mike Riggs | November 28, 2011

"My general belief is that we ought to be much more aggressive about drug policy," GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich tells Yahoo! News' Chris Moody. "In my mind it means having steeper economic penalties and it means having a willingness to do more drug testing." The latter applies almost exclusively to poors, naturally. More from that interview:

In 1996, you introduced a bill that would have given the death penalty to drug smugglers. Do you still stand by that?
I think if you are, for example, the leader of a cartel, sure. Look at the level of violence and the level of violence that they've done to society.  . . . You can either be in the Ron Paul tradition and say there's nothing wrong with heroine and cocaine or you can be in the tradition that says, These kind of addictive drugs are terrible, they deprive you of full citizenship and they lead you to a dependency which is antithetical to being an American. If you're serious about the latter view, then we need to think through a strategy that makes it radically less likely that we're going to have drugs in this country.
Places like Singapore have been the most successful at doing that. They've been very draconian. And they have communicated with great intention that they intend to stop drugs from coming into their country.
In 1981, you introduced a bill that would allow marijuana to be used for medical purposes. What has changed?
What has changed was the number of parents I met with who said they did not want their children to get the signal from the government that it was acceptable behavior and that they were prepared to say as a matter of value that it was better to send a clear signal on no drug use at the risk of inconveniencing some people--then it was to be compassionate toward a small group at the risk of telling a much larger group that it was okay to use the drug.
It's a change of information. Within a year of my original support of that bill I withdrew it.
Ron Paul and Barney Frank have introduced a similar bill almost every year since.
You have to admit, Ron Paul has a coherent position. It's not mine, but it's internally logical.
Speaking of Ron Paul, at the last debate, he said that the war on drugs has been an utter failure. We've spent billions of dollars since President Nixon and we still have rising levels of drug use. Should we continue down the same path given the amount of money we've spent? How can we reform our approach?
I think that we need to consider taking more explicit steps to make it expensive to be a drug user. It could be through [drug] testing before you got any kind of federal aid. Unemployment compensation, food stamps, you name it.
It has always struck me that if you're serious about trying to stop drug use, then you need to find a way to have a fairly easy approach to it and you need to find a way to be pretty aggressive about insisting--I don't think actually locking up users is a very good thing. I think finding ways to sanction them and to give them medical help and to get them to detox is a more logical long term policy.

. . . Sometime in the next year we'll have a comprehensive proposal on drugs and it will be designed to say that we want to minimize drug use in America and we're very serious about it.

Further proof that the smartest man in the GOP actually loves " rightwing social engineering"; is a nitwit. Further reading: Why modeling U.S. drug laws on those in Singapore is tantamount to modeling U.S. Internet laws on those in China ( which, yay!, we're actually doing right now); Reason's Gingrich 2012 profile.

The Bipartisan War on Liberty

The Bipartisan War on Liberty
Liberal and conservative elites agree on one thing: Americans are too free for their own good.
A. Barton Hinkle | November 18, 2011

To outward appearances, it might seem as though the left and right have never been more at odds. And for the average man in the street, drawn to the Tea Party on one side or the Occupy movement on the other, this might be true. But it is not so true for elite opinion. The nation's high and mighty may be divided about many things, but on one point they often agree: Americans are still too darn free.

For example: Not enough people exercise their right to vote. Problem, right? Well, William Galston of the Brookings Institution has a solution: Force them to. The other day he took to the pages of The New York Times to explain why we should be "Telling Americans to Vote, or Else." (It doesn't seem to have occurred to Galston that making people exercise a right takes that right away, by turning it into an obligation.)

Galston is hardly alone. Mitt Romney considers it a problem that many foreign nationals enter America without a government permission slip. His solution: Force every U.S. resident to carry a biometric ID card. (Just the thing to present at the polls when meeting your mandatory-voting requirement, eh? Great minds think alike.)

One of Romney's GOP primary opponents, Michele Bachmann, laments that many Americans53 percent of thempay no federal income tax. So she proposed forcing everyone to do so, even if they don't have any income to pay taxes on. That'll show 'em.

Time magazine proposed forcing every American into national service. A federal advisory board has decided, to much applause, that we should force boys as well as girls to receive the HPV vaccine. Proponents of ObamaCare believe the government should force everyone to buy health insurance.

The Obama administration also has lots of other bright ideas about how to bend the American people to its will. Last year Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told those at a National Press Club that the administration's "livability" initiative "is a way to coerce people out of their cars." The administration also wants to force insurers to pay for birth control and abortifacients, and to force consumers to buy more fuel-efficient cars.

Voices outside the administration, however, fret that it is not being forceful enough. In a recent Washington Post column, Dana Milbank advised the president to emulate the ruthless tactics of JFK. Milbank recounts how Roger Blough, chairman of U.S. Steel, raised prices in defiance of the president's wishes. "'You have made a terrible mistake,' Kennedy told him. Subpoenas flew, FBI agents marched into steel executives' offices, and Kennedy spoke about IRS agents examining 'hotel bills and nightclub expenses [that] would be hard to get by the weekly wives' bridge group out at the country club.'"

Ahh, the good old days. When J. Edgar Hoover pulled stunts like that, liberals considered it proof that the dark night of fascism was descending across the land. But when their own guys do it, they call it getting things done. Nary a word from Milbank about what business the president has dictating steel prices, by the way.

Yet Milbank is a piker in the thuggery-worship category, at least when compared with The New York Times' Thomas Friedman. In 2009, Friedman penned a column about how China's one-party autocracy was better than America's two-party system: "One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks," he wrote, "but when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people . . . it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies to move a society forward." He went on to list some of China's critically important policies, which weresurprise!policies of which he personally approved.

Well, anyone can write a stinker of a column now and then (heaven knows!). But a year later Friedman was still at it, relating on Meet the Press how he has "fantasized" about "what if we could just be China for a day?" Then "we could actually, you know, authorize the right solutions." He didn't actually want America to "be China," mind you, he just wanted "my democracy to work with the same authority." That way, Friedman could impose his will on everyone else, and life would be grand.

This is what power fetishists always do: assume the power will be used in ways they like. (And since the ends are noble, they surely must justify the means, right?) Sometimes it is. But power changes hands, and the inheritors may be a rather different sort. The people pushing for more government power never seem to think of thatuntil it's too late.

The boys who cry “Holocaust”

The boys who cry "Holocaust"
The same neocon hawks who lied us into Iraq are using the ultimate argument-stopper to push war with Iran
By Gary Kamiya

We've been through this before. As one of the most disastrous wars in our history is coming to an inglorious end, the same neoconservative hawks who dreamed it up are agitating for a new war that would make Iraq look like the invasion of Grenada and using the ultimate trump card in American politics to silence debate over it.

When hawks begin beating the drums for war in the Middle East, Israel is usually a big reason why. That was true in the run-up to the war in Iraq, and it is doubly true with the current  hysteria over Iran. Despite disingenuous claims to the contrary, the only reason the U.S. is even talking about war with Iran is Israel. As the invaluable M.J. Rosenberg, who knows the working of the Israel lobby as only a former card-carrying member can, notes, "It is impossible to find a single politician or journalist advocating war with Iran who is not a neocon or an AIPAC cutout. (They're often both.)"

Ever since the International Atomic Energy Agency released its overhyped, old-news report on Iran's nuclear program, Israel's amen corner in the U.S. has been loudly calling for war.

If American politics did not contain an enormous blind spot, no one would pay any attention to what these discredited ideologues have to say. The Iraq war they championed turned out to be one of the biggest foreign-policy disasters in U.S. history. Their ignorant and Islamophobic view of the Middle East is as breathtaking as their bland willingness to commit America to yet another ruinous war against a Muslim country, this time one four times larger than Iraq and with more than twice as many people. They have a demonstrated track record of complete failure.

Yet these incompetent militarists are still taken seriously. And the reason is simple: They purport to be supporters of Israel. In American politics, you can get away with even the most cracked war-mongering as long as you claim to be "pro-Israel." And the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free card for anything having to do with Israel is the Holocaust.

To listen to the neocons and hawks, you'd think Hitler was about to send the tanks over the Polish border. Former U.S. ambassador and Dr. Strangelove impersonator John Bolton said, "The only alternative now is the potential for a pre-emptive military strike against their military program, either by the United States or Israel. Diplomacy has failed. Sanctions have failed." For Bolton, Iran is the second coming of Nazi Germany: "If the choice is them continuing [towards a nuclear bomb] or the use of force, I think you're at a Hitler marching into the Rhineland point … We're still in 1936, but not for long."

Jeffrey Goldberg, the former Israeli Defense Forces corporal and Atlantic writer, whose bogus claim in the New Yorker that Saddam Hussein might give his nonexistent WMD to al-Qaida helped convince some liberals to support the Iraq war,  claims, "The Israeli case for preemption is compelling, and has been for some time."

Why? "The leaders of Iran are eliminationist anti-Semites; men who, for reasons of theology, view the state of the Jews as a 'cancer.' They have repeatedly called for Israel's destruction and worked to hasten that end, mainly by providing material support and training to two organizations, Hamas and Hezbollah, that specialize in the slaughter of innocent Jews. Iran's leaders are men who deny the Holocaust while promising another."

Goldberg acknowledged the downside for Israel of attacking Iran, including international isolation and retaliation, but for him that was a reason why America, not Israel, should threaten war.

"Numerous Israeli officials have told me that they are much less likely to recommend a preemptive strike of their own if they were reasonably sure that Obama was willing to use force. And if Iran's leaders feared there was a real chance of a U.S. attack, they might actually modify their behavior," Goldberg wrote. "I believe Obama would use force and that he should make that perfectly clear to the Iranians."

Neoconservative leader Bill Kristol, who was wrong about Iraq and was rewarded by being given a gig at the New York Times, where he quickly proved to be perhaps the worst columnist of all time, wrote in the Weekly Standard,  "The next speech we need to hear from the Obama administration should announce that, after 30 years, we have gone on the offensive against this murderous regime. And the speech after that can celebrate the fall of the regime, and offer American help to the democrats building a free and peaceful Iran." In 2009, Kristol compared Obama to Neville Chamberlain for not being sufficiently outspoken on behalf of the Iranian people.

The Holocaust mind-set

But the most nakedly coercive use of the Holocaust was made by GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich (whose trustworthiness in foreign policy matters can be judged by the fact that he criticized the Bush State Department for not cooking its intelligence to support the Iraq war). "I don't think the United States has the moral right to say to a country whose people who have already gone through one Holocaust – two nuclear weapons is another Holocaust,"

Pearl Harbor Caused the Financial Crisis of 2008

Pearl Harbor Caused the Financial Crisis of 2008
posted by James Altucher
on November 25th, 2011

Pearl Harbor ruined my life. I'm going to cut right to the chase. When the Japanese invaded Pearl Harbor, provoking our massive WW II response, in a very direct way, it cause the financial crisis of 2008, my divorce, my potential poverty, and most other problems in my life.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and so did Lincoln's assassination, right? No, I didn't say that. Don't put words in my mouth. In fact, originally I was going to say women caused the financial crisis but it's not their fault and it's a bit more accurate to say Pearl Harbor did. We are going for accuracy here. And through accuracy we will eliminate all of the BS, find the truth of what is happening to our financial system, and much more importantly, what is happening to us as a society, as a family, as individuals, and where we are heading. Without truth lies despair.

(love was in the air that day)

And why should we? For the past three years I've been reading non-stop nonsense about what caused the financial crisis. And even though the events are now three years old and its thoroughly boring to read about collateralized debt mortgages over and over again, the events of that foul period have reared their ugly heads again in the anger made manifest by the "Occupy" movements.  And then another flurry of articles (and that's what they are – a flurry -  the first taste of snow in a new season of blame, anger,finger-pointing, she said-he said, we're broke, they're rich, world is over, contagion, storms that are hitting both coasts and will begin to move inwards.)

So let's just quickly decide what didn't cause the financial crisis: Bush and Obama were too clueless. They messed up the bailouts  but whatever. Andrew Cuomo when he was Secretary of HUD under Clinton certainly contributed by lowering the lending standards of Fannie Mae so more people could buy a house. But lets not blame the sick and the ill: he had the best intentions, little knowing that allowing more people to get into massive debt is not necessarily a good solution to anything.

Greenspan kept interest rates artificially low for a long time, allowing the lending splurge to continue, but he did not  really know what he was doing. He was afraid  of the Internet  bust, of 9/11, of Enron, of Bush, of congress, of his reputation falling to pieces, of his sycophantic lust for Ayn Rand. Psychotherapists are now handling him in the asylum so it's a sad situation and we should let the mentally ill alone.

What we really want to get at is not the finger-pointing. It does me no good to blame you, her, him, them. I only care what's going to happen for ME and my family NEXT. And here it is. I will be as straight as possible, Disagree in the comments but here's the real historical and psychological roots of what happened and NOBODY has gotten to the heart of the matter until this very post:

Pearl Harbor was invaded.

-          Men went to war. All of the men. Except for me. I wasn't born but if I was I certainly would not have gone. But that's another story.

-          With all the men at war, women went to work.

-          Suddenly the war was over (only several million civilians had to die from nuclear radiation or massive city-wide bombing) and the men came back.

-          Along with the men, there was a new family that arrived on the block and try as we might we can't kick them out: the Jones Family.

Oh those Jonseses. What a bunch of braggarts. They have everything we don't have. And starting after World War II, they had two incomes.

The wife had gone  to work in World War II and tasted the first sip of that syrupy but addictive monetary freedom and WILL NOT go back. So Mrs. Jones is hard at work so they can afford an extra station wagon, a pool, a watch, a television set (for  those notborn then, that means "a TV"), a phone, two radios, a vacation, an HP calculator, and so on.

-          And good for the Jones family! No more War! No more Depression! Let's put t all behind us. We're going to buy things now. Buy, BuY, BUY! There's nothing we can't buy in a no-inflation, two income world.

-          But inflation creeped up. Recession happened. Our spending was cut off. HELP! We need to spend. We NEEDto keep up.  Early 60s malaise. So we had to boost things. Kennedy started cutting taxes so we could have more take-home money. This spurred the stock market again. We had a boom for almost 8 years in the 60s.

Ahhh, now we can spend again. Stocks were going up. Money managers were starting to be superstars.  With all that extra money what should we do? Johnson had an idea – "The Great Society". Might as well have government join in the fun. Money was not only being spent by the Jones family but by the government. We were going to have one Great Society while we bombed another Great Society (Vietnam) all to hell. No problem, we had the money.

But then of course, inflation creeped in. We needed more money than we had. How were we going to KEEP UP WITH THE JONES FAMILY? So Nixon said, no problem, let's get off the gold standard and we'll just GIVE people the money to spend. PHEW! That solved that problem. For a micro-second. And then inflation got  out of control. Which at first sounds good. People had more money to spend. But first Ford, then Carter, got scared about it. Ford even made these nifty little buttons (I own a few in my political items collection started as a kid): Whip Inflation Now.

So the Carter /Volker team decided to raise interest rates until everyone lost their jobs, lost their businesses, and spending stopped.

Let me tell you something: YOU CANNOT STOP THE JONES FAMILY from spending. So Carter was fired. In comes Reagan. Taxes cut, interest rates cut, stock market goes up.

Ahhhh, we can spend again. Relief!

And then let's step on the gas pedal. Some crafty guy, Mike Milken, comes out of Wharton with this new idea about Junk Bonds (the first derivatives bordering on exotic).  Now a trillion or so gets injected into the system via borrowing JUNK money. Beautiful. The Jones family needed a TV in every room, two cars, and Charlie Jones needed a computer in his room. A Macintosh.

But even that wasn't enough. The junk bond thing was nice but fell apart. Milken went to jail and his prostate went on fire. This is really unpleasant. How can we kick up that spending again?

Oh thank God! The Soviet Union disappeared AND the World Wide Web  was created. No more military spending and suddenly the stock market was booming again despite our irrational exuberance for it. Clinton stepped on the gas pedal when he took off all ecommerce taxes. And Cuomo stepped it up again by lowing lending standards for houses. No problem. It's good when people spend. We don't want a 1930s Depresson after all. Do you? The only way the economy grows is when people spend faster than it (they have to spend faster than the economy because some people put money in the bank and that takes the money out of the system.)

Phew! We're ok. And then thanks to a good ol' fashioned crisis out of Asia plus the blow up of a major hedge fund, Greenspan kept interest rates particularly low. So you can now borrow, buy stuff cheap on the Internet, buy a house if you live in the ghetto, and use any leftover money to buy stocks. BAM!

Uh-oh, but even that wasn't enough to feed the spending monsters the Jones Family created. Dot-com bust, 9/11, Enron, unemployment ticking us up. Help us Obi-Wan Greenspan! You are our only hope.

So let's get creative. We've used almost every tool in our tool chest. So he kept interest rates low. And mortgages started to get bundled together and sold as AAA bonds to pension funds (why not? In a billion years, people haven't defaulted according to all the  statistical models, COMPLETELY ignoring that the rules changed in 1997 and there wasn't enough data yet).

Housing boom! I even got a credit card off of my house. We all did! PART-EEEE!

But it had to end. We couldn't keep spending. Eventually houses ran out of steam, all the bonds defaulted, the banks went out of business. People stopped spending.

Ok, ok, don't worry. Tim Geithner, Hank Paulson,  Jamie Dimon,  Lloyd Blankfein – the smartest minds since the Manhattan Project times ten, got together and figured out one last place  where we can get the money so the party could continue:  and it wasn't stocks, or lower taxes, or junk bonds, or no gold standard, or bundled mortgages, and houses, and internet stocks, and getting rid of monogamy (think about it – how about triple income homes?) – the GOVERNMENT can give us money. Just print it up and hand it out to people on the street. Or themselves. Same thing!

So Bernanke has now printed up about 2.5 trillion. The stock market doubled from a low of S&P 666 (seriously, I'm not going to be a "Left Behind" conspiracy theorist here but that is a little spooky. Did Lloyd Blankfein do that on purpose?). But what's going on? The bank reserves have gone up by almost an equal amount – they decided to not lend the money after all. And unemployment went up 50%. What the.

But consumer spending is still at an all time high? I spoke to a vice-chairman at a top 3 bank a few weeks ago. I was told (not giving up the gender of the person in question) that "the foreclosure problem is so great we can't even count how many are out there." That's just great actually. If the Jones family is unemployed, and stocks are going down, and taxes are too high, and healthcare has gone up three times faster than inflation in the past 40 years then there's only one place to get the money we need to up our spending – let's stop paying the mortgage! As millions have done. So now they can buy a motorcycle. I hope they buy helmets also. It's the law!

Who is left? It's been 70 years since Pearl Harbor started this long national nightmare of spending just so we can keep a little bit ahead. We've tried everything to keep our spending up since. Double incomes, stocks, houses, government, etc. What the hell is next?

To me this is much more important than finger-pointing about 2008. Above I describe what really happened. The roots of it back 70 years. The non-stop fear that we slip back into the Great Depression. And it points to only two obvious answers. The classic route, which allows us to spend more. And a new innovative approach, which will save everything.

The classic route: there is only ONE new source of new dollars we can go to to increase our spending: CHINA. China has two trillion of our dollars. We only have about $80 billion in the US treasury. So China has  to give our consumers money somehow so they can spend. And believe me, they will do this. It's already too late. We're the biggest economy by far still and still the most innovative but bit by bit China will start buying everything up and we'll inflate the prices of the things we sell to them (they can't avoid this, they have all our money and it's like a game of musical chairs – they don't want to be the last ones holding onto it) and we'll have more and more money to spend…until about 2050. Then we will run out of things to sell to them. Then we need to learn Chinese.

The new approach: Sell everything now before China gets it's grubby hands on it. The government needs to shut it all down. Every state should sell their highways (they break even on the highways because of poor management.), sell all the schools, the hospitals. Sell the post office which is horribly mismanaged. Shut down the education department (which has spent hundreds of billions and yet higher education costs have gone up 10 times the rate of inflation since the Department of Education was started). Shut down the FDA and let people get the medicine they need at 1/100 the price. Shut down every department (do we even really need a State Department? Are there any treaties we really need to get our grubby hands on?) Obviously Abolish Congress  (if you read the post that links to you'll see there's zero reason for Congress) and save billions if not trillions. And once you've sold everything (can we even sell Alaska to Canada?) we can shut down the Presidency. Job well done.

The result: A country with no debt. A country where everyone has jobs (someone has to work at all the schools and highways and hospitals that have just been sold and are now finally making profits with proper management). We're right back to 1945. A clean, fresh start. We can let our great grandkids worry about what happens 70 years  from now. Let's let the spending begin again – gray skies are going to clear up.

Re: blatant double standard

No question,  for years, Jews only suggest anti-Semitism, and an individual would be butchered in the media,  for asking legitimate questions regarding Israel,  Judaism, or anything to do with history that connects Jews.

That is changing.  Slowly but nevertheless, one can criticize Israel now without the Anti-Semite"  label.

contrast, Bush faced universal criticism by the Jewish media by simply
speaking at a conservative Christian university (Bob Jones University)

storm of criticism, Bush had to quickly apologize and then
passionately condemn Bob Jones University for its position. Of course,
within a few days, Bush was again speaking before many Jewish groups
that stridently oppose intermarriage, yet no one in the media dared
object to these appearances, or to even point out this blatant double
standard.

The Netherlands has relatively few civil servants

Just 2.9% of the Dutch working population are employed by the state, compared with 3.3% in the US and 4.7% in the UK, according to new research quoted by the Financieele Dagblad on Tuesday.

The figures are contained in a report by Leiden University researchers due out in December.

It says the low percentage of civil servants in the Netherlands is due to the large number of non-profit organisations in the public sector. These organisations are not part of government but do work which is a state function in other countries.

The current government has made reducing the size of the state sector a central part of its strategy to cut spending.

blatant double standard

Charles Bronfman, a main sponsor of "Birthright Israel," an
organization specifically committed to preventing intermarriage
between Jews and Gentiles, expressed the need to preserve the Jewish
genetic character as expressed in the Jewish DNA.

Bronfman is brother of Edgar Bronfman, Sr., president of the World
Jewish Congress. He said,

"…you're losing a lot — losing the kind of feeling you have when
you know [that] throughout the world there are people who somehow or
other have the same kind of DNA that you have."

Imagine for a moment if former President George Bush would speak to a
group of White college students and tell them how great it is for them
know that others in the world share their White DNA, and that they
should not lose it by intermarrying with other races. Bush could live
to 100 years old and still never live down a remark like that!

During his campaign for President in 2000, Bush spoke before dozens of
Jewish organizations and Synagogues that oppose intermarriage between
Jews and non-Jews. The media only had praise for those appearances. In
contrast, Bush faced universal criticism by the Jewish media by simply
speaking at a conservative Christian university (Bob Jones University)
that quietly opposes racial intermarriage. After the media unleashed a
storm of criticism, Bush had to quickly apologize and then
passionately condemn Bob Jones University for its position. Of course,
within a few days, Bush was again speaking before many Jewish groups
that stridently oppose intermarriage, yet no one in the media dared
object to these appearances, or to even point out this blatant double
standard.
