Re: Newt Gingrich, Weasel

Keith,

Holding Gingrich out as a defender of small government by accepting what he says as opposed to what he has actually done does not seem very bright on your part.

Gingrich had mediocre Conservative Index ratings:

 96th Congress: 85
 97th Congress: 77
 98th Congress: 74
 99th Congress: 80
100th Congress: 80
101st Congress: 57
100nd Congress: 60
103rd Congress: 78

Just some examples of his big government votes:

03-21-1991 - $40 billion - bailout of failed savings and loan institutions;
06-26-1991 - $52.6 billion - agriculture program subsidies, and food stamps;
10-05-1992 - $66.5 billion - housing and community development;
09-22-1994 - $250.6 billion - appropriations for the Departments of Labor, HHS, and Education.

Foreign Aid:

06-27-1990 - $15.7 billion for fiscal 1991;
06-20-1991 - $12.4 billion for fiscal 1992 and $13 billion for fiscal 1993;
06-25-1992 - $13.8 billion for fiscal 1993;
08-06-1992 - $12.3 billion for the IMF.
06-17-1993 - $13.0 billion for fiscal 1994;
09-29-1993 - $12.9 billion, including $2.5 billion to Russia;
08-04-1994 - $13.8 billion for fiscal 1995.

I could likely spend most of the day finding his pro-big government votes.

To prove my point, I will take the time to refute another one of your dumb, "cut and paste" posts.

As usual,  Michael  took an article from a Moonbat,  Tom Woods, who quotes another Moonbat, Bob Wenzel, in their bashing of Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich,  the crux of the articles amount to nothing other than some name calling, specifically that Mr. Gingrich is a weasel.

Let's review:

First,  Woods  cites Wentzel's "brief" article as being somehow "sharp"  and "insightful".    Here's what Wentzel said, according to Woods, the, "brief,  sharp insightful"  article in its entirety:

"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will officially jump into the race for the Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday with announcements on Facebook and Twitter,

The Gingrich campaign strategy appears to be that he will run not on any principles, but more on the fact that he is not President Obama.

A Gingrich snippet:

The fact is, we are not going to close the deficit and move towards a balanced budget unless we follow the policies that foster the economic growth necessary to create jobs.The first and most immediate step would be to employ the policies that encourage investment, create jobs, and reward innovation and entrepreneurship -- exactly the opposite of the Obama anti-jobs policies

Aside from the attack on President Obama, the underlying message here is that Gingrich wants to balance the budget not by reducing government spending, but by increasing tax revenues through more jobs. In other words, Gingrich sees no problem with the current size of government."

========

Obviously,  both Wentzel and Woods are either just total ignoramuses, and/or they are purposely attempting to besmirch Mr. Gingrich's long record and established policy of smaller federal government.  For example,  here is a speech from just two months ago,  on Mr. Gingrich's policies on smaller, limited federal government:

"We need to declare our independence from trying to protect and defend failed bureaucracies that magically become ours as soon as we are in charge of them. We appoint solid conservatives to a department and within three weeks they are defending and protecting the very department that they would have been attacking before they got appointed.

I think that there are two grave lessons for the conservative movement since 1980. The first, which we still haven't come to grips with, is that governing..."

The 21st Century Contract with America includes:
  • Change the mindset of big government by replacing bureaucratic public administration with Entrepreneurial Public Management so government can operate with the speed, effectiveness, & efficiency of the information age.
  • Balance the federal budget and insist on a lean government, low tax, low interest rate economy to maximize growth.
  • Insist on congressional reform to make the legislative branch responsive to the needs of the 21st century.

=============

I could go on and on showing and demonstrating Mr. Gingrich's belief that our federal government is out of control, and that both Woods and Wentzel are Moonbats.   As a matter of fact,  why don't you Google both men and see what their credentials are?   You will find that they are not qualified any more than you or I, to be espousing their misinformation.

So, the point being, is that the next time you cut and paste an article that you expect some kind of thoughtful feedback on, maybe you should start trying to post a little more thoughtful cut and paste articles?

Joe Biden not worth of assassination according to Osama bin Laden

Even al-Qaeda knows Biden isn't worthy of a suicide bomber

Even a terrorist knows Joe is worthless.

From The Telegraph:

US officials have revealed that Osama bin Laden's diaries contain the rather startling conclusion that he didn't think Vice President Joe Biden was worth bumping off (hat tip: a tweet from my New York colleague Jon Swaine).

According to ProPublica, the Obama administration is briefing that Barack Obama was bin Laden's the "top target" (no surprise there) while "military chiefs like the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the defense secretary" were also major scalps.

But Joe Biden's scalp (hair plugs and all)? Apparently, not so much. A counterterrorism official said: "There is a note indicating that the vice president is not an important target because that position has less weight."

To be fair, it seems that Uncle Joe was not mentioned by name and the al-Qaeda leader tied the comment to the constitutional weakness of the vice-presidency rather than the antics of the garrulous current occupant.

The Pima Sheriff's Department said its SWAT team was trying to serve warrants for a drug investigation.  According to deputies, when SWAT members broke open the door at Guerea's house they found him crouched in the hall, with an assault rifle pointed at them. His wife Vanessa was hiding in the closet with their 4-year-old son during the shooting.  When she emerged, she saw her husband on the floor in a pool of blood, but still alive.  Vanessa told KGUN9 she called 911 and pleaded with deputies to treat his wounds. "The only thing I told them was take care of him, take him to a hospital," she said. KGUN9 News requested the emergency call records for Drexel Heights Fire Rescue.  The 911 call center notified Drexel Heights at 9:43 a.m.  A unit arrived just two minutes later at 9:45.  However, deputies told rescue workers to stay put.  That's standard to be sure they won't walk into a dangerous situation.  But paramedics waited until 10:59 a.m.   Then they heard the radio call "Code 900", which meant they were no longer needed because the person was dead. _After one hour and 14 minutes, Drexel Heights indicated they were never allowed to even examine Jose._ In comparison, on the day of the January 8th mass shooting, deputies held back ambulance and fire crews there for only 12 minutes before they determined it was safe for emergency medical crews to enter the chaotic scene. _The Guerea maintains that SWAT members did not identify themselves before breaking down the door, and Jose Guerea had his rifle drawn because he was protecting his family from what he thought was a home invasion._  His wife said he had a clean criminal record, and that she still doesn't know why SWAT members were serving a search warrant at the house.  The family announced Wednesday that they have hired prominent attorney Christopher Scileppi to represent them. --        Freedom is always illegal! Fwd: [NEWS] Was the 15th president gay?

Telegram & Gazette (Worcester, MA), by Albert B. Southwick

Has the United States ever had a homosexual president? U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Newton, recently indicated his belief that James Buchanan, our 15th president, probably was. The subject has been debated over the years by the gossip historians, and probably will never be decided to everyone's satisfaction. What we do know is that Mr. Buchanan never married, and that he had a very close personal friend, Alabama Sen. Rufus King, who lived with him for years. Andrew Jackson sometimes called Mr. King "Miss Nancy" and "Aunt Fancy," while others referred to "Buchanan and his wife." ..........

Fwd: [I-S] 'Atlas Shrugged': The CliffsNotes Today

http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/544033/201008171834/Atlas-Shrugged-The-CliffsNotes-Today.aspx

 'Atlas Shrugged': The CliffsNotes Today

By SCOTT S. POWELL Posted 08/17/2010 06:34 PM ET

'Atlas Shrugged" — Ayn Rand's fourth and last novel, published in 1957
— may be second to the Bible as the most influential book read in
America, according to a Library of Congress survey. It is required
reading in management training at BB&T, the 12th-largest bank in the
U.S. and one that resisted taking TARP bailout funds.

Since the Obama administration took office, "Atlas Shrugged" has been
enjoying a renaissance with rising sales and library waiting lists,
partly because it explains our current economic woes more
straightforwardly than most of what we hear from today's experts.

What happened in Rand's narrative is coming to pass today, with an
anti-business administration reviling private industry and
capitalizing on crisis to expand and redirect investment within and
between sectors of the economy — setting quotas, prices and
compensation.

Businesses responded by retrenching — ceasing to invest, innovate and
expand. Whole industries contracted, closed down or moved offshore,
much like the U.S. gas and oil drilling industry is doing today. Then,
just as now, management became frustrated, discouraged and reluctant
to create jobs in an environment of excessive government meddling.

A record $2 trillion now sits on corporate balance sheets waiting to
be invested amid reasonably cheap asset prices. What holds back
investment is uncertainty and fear stemming from an overbearing and
free-spending government. Businessmen and investors would never
attempt spending and borrowing their way back to prosperity.

The debt-financed Obama stimulus plan is not only failing to create
jobs. It ratchets up systemic risk, inviting a currency crisis and
bond-market collapse — from which recovery might be impossible.

President Obama recently took credit for a 0.2 -percentage-point drop
in the nation's unemployment rate to 9.5% and the creation of 71,000
private-sector jobs, claiming his policies were working. In fact, many
of those jobs were in the socialized automotive sector. The supposed
decrease in unemployment resulted from 611,000 Americans giving up on
finding work and dropping off the official rolls of the unemployed.

Official statistics mask the underlying truth of a private-sector
economy that is failing to create jobs. In fact, when all those who
have given up looking for work are accounted for since the recession
began, the real unemployment rate may be closer to 18% — almost double
the official numbers.

While the private sector shed nearly 8 million jobs in the last 2 1/2
years, the federal government increased its payroll by 240,000. So the
private sector that is the primary source of national wealth has been
shrinking while supporting a growing public sector that generally
produces nothing.

That burden is made greater by the fact that government workers have
incomes that are 30% higher and benefits 50% more costly on average
than those received by equivalent private-sector workers.

This shift of wealth from the productive private sector to the
unproductive public sector is stickier today than it was in "Atlas
Shrugged" because government is now a union shop, with pay having
little to do with performance. Unionized government cannot be
downsized easily, and its employees have effectively become the
country's most powerful entitlement special-interest group.

Thus, government-run schools controlled by the teachers unions can
fail decade after decade without consequence or substantive reform.
The government takeover of the health care industry — aka "ObamaCare"
— was a high priority not because it was good for the majority of
Americans, but because the ruling elite want to expand unionization,
entitlement and dependency.

The media chase scandal and sensationalism but largely ignore the most
consequential story of our time: the Obama administration's drive to
shift wealth and power from the productive private sector to the
nonproductive public sector. Rand calls this appropriation of wealth
by the government nothing less than looting.

For her, the primary source of social good is in ingenuity and hard
work that produce wealth in the form of invention and technological
breakthrough. Crony capitalism and forced redistribution of wealth by
faceless government bureaucrats is anything but virtuous.

Rand warns us that government policies that engender entitlement and
cause business owners to go on strike and withhold their capital are
detrimental to the economy. What compounds this problem today is that
an out-of-control profligate government that enlarges dependence also
sets us up for a greater economic crisis than the last one.

Fortunately, the catalyst for course correction is around the corner.
Ironically, President Obama can be thanked for making this midterm
election an overdue referendum on liberalism. Average Americans are
now more informed and engaged than they have been in generations, and
they are highly motivated to vote.

The most credible and successful candidates, whether incumbents or new
entries, are likely to be those resolutely committed to deficit- and
debt-reduction and getting government out of the way of private-sector
job creation — the essence of Ayn Rand.

Big Buts

Big Buts
by Brian Wilson

Freedom can make your But look big

Someone famous – or at least real smart – once said (paraphrasing here): "But" means: forget about everything I've said up to now."

Example: "He's attractive BUT his mother should have kept the stork."

Only what comes ATB (After The But) is relevant.

Listen carefully and you will hear people disagreeing with others – even themselves – about all sorts of things. Many of them are pretty damn important.

This morning, I heard in an interview on my station with a spokeswoman for a seemingly worthwhile organization. She was asked their position on "School Choice". "As a result of our annual membership polling, "School Choice" is very important". Then hastily, she added: "We're not trying to get rid of Public Schools BUT home schooling, charter schools, private and parochial schools are all very high in our members' opinions."

Translation: Public Schools suck. They are the Anti-Christ of Education. They are a chew-toy for the teachers' unions. Public Schools are where Mediocrity goes to breed; a rat-hole for taxpayer dollars. They are Lobotomy Central for curing the Common Student of any semblance Individuality. It is where "entrepreneur" is a 4-letter word. You cannot yell "THINK" in a Public School.

OK – maybe I'm reading a tad more into it than she intended. Still, the ATB message was clear: Public Schools? Not a fan.

Good for her! My folks yanked me out of 7th grade at the local "Junior High School" (a quaint title replaced with "Middle School" after the success of "Hee-Haw") and shipped me off to Tie & Jacket, New England for a prep school education that serves me well to this day. Of course, as some of my radio shows reflect, I manage to keep it well hidden much of the time. Don't wanna scare away any who believe their lokal skool systum iz duin a grate job.

But I digress.

The ubiquitous "Elected Officials" pull this stunt regularly and get a pass every time (NB: Except on my radio station).

Thanks to the Never-Ending Saga of Public School Scandals, a recent parade of the aforementioned "EO's" has made their positions and opinions known. To the men and woman, representing City, County and State positions, all have said something remarkably similar to:

"My Good Friends, as my constituents well know, I am all for charter schools (OR fiscal responsibility OR quality education), BUT we must support our Public Schools! We must Do It For The Children!"

Translation:

"Screw the kids. Gimme the money." (See " Waiting For Superman" and "Kids Aren't Cars")

If everything (allegedly) done "for the children" was really done for the children, every kid would be brilliant, articulate, well balanced and immortal rather than mush-brained, over-weight little perfectionists expertly burnishing their Self-Esteem on FaceBook yet unable to find the United States on a blank map of the United States. Critical Thinking, Objective Analysis, Logic – all given up for Lent, 1968 by the Government Training Camps. Parental Apathy remains an Unindicted Co-Conpsirator.

But I digress.

Some of the biggest Buts can be found discussing Guns. No self-respecting Conservative, Republican or Independent (or rural district Democrat) can get away with GBT (Gun Ban Talk). But if you listen carefully….

"My friends, no one supports the Second Amendment more strongly than I do! It's our God-given right to defend ourselves! And to go hunting! And stuff! BUT these Assault Weapons and Saturday Night Specials and hi-cap magazines and bayonet lugs have no practical hunting purpose. That is why I support reasonable guns laws."

Translation: "Screw Human Rights, Bill of Rights, Right and Wrong and Common Sense. Ban guns. Ban 'em all! They're evil! If it saves just one life…! (And by the way, vote for me because I stand for our American Values! And Freedom! Do it for the children! Really").

Coming in a close 2nd to Guns in big BUT showing is the oxymoronic War on Drugs. After all the logical, reasonable, statistical, medical, moral and legal arguments have been laid out demonstrating the stupidity, waste, fraud, abuse, costs, incarceration and loss of innocent lives in the never-ending pursuit of a Nanny-state "ideal", the response from too many is: "You're right! Everyone has the right to Free Choice! We own our bodies and our lives! In a Free Society, we have the inalienable right to live our lives as we choose, so long as we do not infringe on the rights of others to do the same….BUT legalizing marijuana just goes waaaaay too far. Think of the message it sends to the children!"

Translation: "If they legalize drugs, the kids will hijack my stash and make brownies while I'm at the office…!"

It's amazing how scared people are of Freedom but quite comfy with soft tyranny and incremental socialism.

Invariably, there's a big BUT standing in the way of Freedom, Liberty and the Herculean efforts being made to salvage the Republic. Especially beware of a big BUT in small groups. When tempted to fight fire with fire, remember the Fire Department usually prefers water. Should you encounter a big BUT, try the soothing efficacious applications of reason, logic, fact, historical perspective, judicial precedent, selected articles from LewRockwell.com and, when necessary, the occasional Louisville Slugger to gently but firmly adjust the thinking of the demented ignoranus (correct spelling) in front of you. Avoid citing the Constitution; the learning curve is just too steep. Be more pragmatic than dogmatic. Remember: there's a fine line between cuddling and holding someone down so they can't get away.
